Act No. 701 (2026), Section 6 states that for parishes subject to federal vehicle Inspection and Maintenance requirements the Act takes effect if and when EPA adopts LDEQ's proposed State Implementation Plan amendments; for all other parishes it takes effect January 1, 2027.

R.S. 32:1304(A)(4)(a)-(c) applies different criteria to the eight-and-one-half-inch by eleven-inch acute area, the driver-side wiper-swept critical area, and remaining windshield areas; in the remaining areas, cracks jeopardizing windshield integrity are cause for rejection.
